Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Back to top What are your opening times?
During the summer period we are open from 9.30am - 6pm (last admission 4.45pm). Click here for details of all other opening times

Back to top Are you open on Sundays?
Yes - we are open 7 days a week all year round except 25th/26th December, and 1st January.

Back to top Where is the coach park?
We advise coach drivers to drop off their passengers either outside the Abbey Hotel, four doors down from us, or outside the Post Office on the Abbey Green. The coach park is located behind Market Square at the north end of the High Street, signposted from the roundabout. Coach drivers are offered an incentive gift/cash voucher, the value of which is dependent on the number of the party.

Back to top Which credit/debit cards do you accept?
Mastercard, Visa, Maestro (Switch)

Back to top Where can I find a cash point?
HSBC, Barclays, Nationwide and Natwest are all close by in the High Street.  Please click here for a map showing their location.

Back to top How many comprises a group?
15 people or more. For every 5 children/students, one adult/leader goes free. Coach drivers go free.

Back to top Are you wheelchair friendly?
Unfortunately, the majority of the exhibition is displayed in a medieval hall house with all the original stairways and passageways retained, therefore access is extremely limited for wheelchair users. Due to the age of the building and its listed status, we regret that we are unable to provide lifts to the upper floors.

Back to top Is a visit to the exhibition suitable for the visually impaired?
The majority of the displays have push button commentaries. For further help and advice, please phone 01424 893938.

Back to top Do you offer guided tours?
No. The majority of the displays have push button commentaries, describing 'how life used to be' in the home and the high street. In addition, we offer discovery sheets in seven different European languages, namely English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian and Dutch.

Back to top How long does it take to visit Yesterday's World?
We have over 100,000 exhibits (!) so you should really allow up to an hour and a half to have a proper look around the museum and gift shop. There is also plenty to see and do outside with the children's bygone play village, toddlers' activity area, 1930s railway station, video show, fudge & ice cream parlour and miniature golf course. While away the time with a refreshing drink at the terrace cafe overlooking the beautiful Sussex countryside or bring your own picnic.

Back to top Can we return to Yesterday's World on the same day?
Yes - you can go round the museum and gardens as many times as you like on the day of your visit, simply present your receipt/ticket at the counter upon your return. Please note that we try to allow a 45 minute gap between large parties, so group organisers should enquire first before returning with groups of 15 or more.

Back to top Do you have an activity sheet for children?
We offer three activity sheets suitable for children of different ages.

Back to top Can I take my child's buggy round the museum?
Due to the medieval character of the stairways and building, you will be asked to hand in your pram or pushchair, in exchange for a number, before you commence your tour of the house. Please ask one of the staff behind the counter if you would like to borrow a baby sling or light weight pushchair to use as you go round. Once you have been around the house you can swap it back for your own buggy to go through the into the garden and picnic area.

Back to top Do you have toilets on-site?
Yes there are 3 toilets (including one with disabled access and baby changing facilities) located at the end of the tour of the house. Alternatively there are public toilets available upon arrival in each of the town car parks.

Back to top Are dogs allowed in the museum?
Yes, as long as they are under control on a lead but we ask you to avoid the children's play areas.
