Yesterday's World Only: minimum
15 people in group. For schools and children/student groups we offer a free
adult ratio of 1:5. For adult and senior citizen groups we offer free places to
the group leader and coach driver. Combined Yesterday's World & Battle Abbey
Visit: minimum 11 people in a group. We offer free places to the group leader
and coach driver. |
Are you wheelchair friendly?
Unfortunately, the majority of the exhibition is displayed in a medieval hall
house with all the original stairways and passageways retained, therefore access
is extremely limited for wheelchair users. Due to the age of the building and
its listed status, we regret that we are unable to provide lifts to the upper
floors.
Is a visit to the exhibition suitable for the visually impaired?
The majority of the displays have push button commentaries. For further help and advice, please phone
01424 893938.
Do you offer guided tours?
No. The majority of the displays have push button commentaries, describing 'how life used to be' in the home and the high street. In addition, we offer discovery sheets in seven different European languages, namely English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian and Dutch.
How long does it take to visit Yesterday's World?
We have over 100,000 exhibits (!) so you should really allow up to an hour and a half to have a proper look around the museum and gift
shop. There is also plenty to see and do outside with the children's bygone play village, toddlers' activity area, 1930s railway station, video show, fudge &
ice cream parlour and miniature golf course. While away the time with a refreshing drink at the terrace cafe overlooking the beautiful Sussex countryside or bring your own picnic.
Can we return to Yesterday's World on the same day?
Yes - you can go round the museum and gardens as many times as you like on the day of your visit, simply present your receipt/ticket at the counter upon your return. Please note that we try to allow a 45 minute gap between large parties, so group organisers should enquire first before returning with groups of 15 or more.
Do you have an activity sheet for children?
We offer three activity sheets suitable for children of different ages.
Can I take my child's buggy round the museum?
Due to the medieval character of the stairways and building, you will be asked to hand in your pram or pushchair, in exchange for a number, before you commence your tour of the house. Please ask one of the staff behind the counter if you would like to borrow a baby sling or light weight pushchair to use as you go round. Once you have been around the house you can swap it back for your own buggy to go through the into the garden and picnic area.
Do you have toilets on-site?
Yes there are 3 toilets (including one with disabled access and baby changing facilities) located at the end of the tour of the house. Alternatively there are public toilets available upon arrival in each of the town car parks.
Are dogs allowed in the museum?
Sorry no dogs allowed except guide dogs. |
Where is the nearest Tourist Information Centre?
Inside Battle Abbey visitor centre opposite Yesterday's World
