A school trip to Yesterday’s World is ideal for Key Stage 1 and 2 classes
looking for an educational and fun day out.

The Children in Victorian times section of the Audience with Queen Victoria Exhibition is ideal for Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 primary schools studying the Victorians.

Compare the packaging of goods from 1930s Britain to those of today. We have over 150,000 nostalgic artefacts on display.

An educational visit to Yesterday’s World is ideal for all age groups. It provides an excellent addition to classroom studies on a wide range of topics, in particular, Victorian Britain and Britain since 1930, whilst offering cross-curricular links to English, ICT, Science and Geography.

Packed with over 150,000 genuine artefacts and authentic sounds and smells along the way, children are given a unique opportunity to take a walk back in time to experience the look, feel and smell of life as it used to be at the turn of the century.

Inspire the imagination of your class as you set off up the winding stairs of our 600 year old medieval house, back through time. Journey along the cobbled high street of yesteryear where you’ll find (amongst other displays) a 1930s grocers and post office with rapid wire system and hear the rumble of horse and cart in the busy market place.

The Victorian Kitchen - a useful resource for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 topics, studying The Family Past, Homes and the Victorians.

Breathe in the delicious scent of ‘penny twists’ in Mrs Bumble’s Chocolate Shop, where colourful jars of goodies jostle for space on the heavily-laden shelves and compare the packaging, prices and varieties in comparison to today’s sweets. As you stroll past the Victorian kitchen, the air is filled with the aroma of spices where the hard-working cook and her maid are busy preparing dinner for the master and mistress of the house.

Yesterday’s World is also an ideal place to bring your class for a fun day out with hands-on touch and feel exhibits and a miniature Victorian play village. Why not take turns at playing the village inn-keeper, take a lesson as a governess in the Victorian school room, pretend to be a blacksmith in the forge or even get sent to the castle dungeons?

Most schools allow half a day for a visit, allowing plenty of time to explore the Play Village and ‘touch and feel exhibits’, eat lunch and visit the Gift Shop for souvenirs before they go home.
